Remember 1981 as the year of three significant werewolf movies?
Well, forget about Bad Moon. It sucks and is so cheaply made. The budget for
The Howling was $1.7 million and had outstanding makeup special effects
by Rob Bottin while $7 million was spent on Bad Moon featuring the most rubbish werewolf transformation
I've seen in a long while that was achieved through CGI.
What horror? There isn't any. Director Eric Red is more interested in violence and gore than telling a story.
Although short, the film goes in circles every ten minutes. No wonder why Thor the German shepherd dog (Primo)
is featured a lot to mask this problem.
How about the cast? It's so dismal that Mariel Hemingway, Michael Paré, and Mason Gamble ought to be filed under
"What the Hell Happened to Them?" Eric Red went so far to say, "Mariel was intimidated by Paré because he was
there to give a great performance, and she was there for a paycheck."
Why hasn't any of the characters thought that the attacks could've possibly come from a wild animal since
they were in the middle of the woods? Oddly, Janet already knew the answer by reading her brother's dairy
but okayed taking Thor away to be euthanized at the dog pound. The dog should attack her at the end for
that after taking care of the werewolf.
All in all, despite Primo's exceptional acting, Bad Moon isn't in the same league as
The Howling.
