Body Snatchers feels like it was directed by David Lynch, but Abel Ferrara is the one who did.
I'm surprised the latter had managed to last so long considering his large output of stinkers. What is it
that Hollywood finds so fascinating about him? None of his movies has been profitable. The most successful
take is $2 million for Bad Lieutenant, but the budget was
half of that.
For the first time, Abel Ferrara goes sci-fi by doing a remake of
Invasion of the Body Snatchers although it's a lot
closer to the 1978 version that takes place on a military
base. There's hardly much of meat to keep me interested. Bodies are being taken over, and blah, blah, blah.
Come on...this is nothing new.
Speaking of box office, this one came with a budget of $12 million but only took in $428,868. See what I mean
by betting on a loser like Abel Ferrara? Sure, there's an interesting collection of
thespians: Gabrielle Anwar, Billy Wirth, Terry Kinney, Meg Tilly, R. Lee Ermey, and Forest Whitaker. How
about that Christine Elise who's been repeating the same tiresome character, going back to
21 Jump Street and so much more in Beverly Hills, 90210?
All in all, Abel Ferrara sucks, and Body Snatchers shows why.
