1/26:
The JFK assassination is generally accepted as the mother of all conspiracy theories.
Therefore, I'm surprised that Mel Gibson's high-functioning autistic character, Jerry, didn't talk much about
it throughout Conspiracy Theory. Yeah, he occasionally throws out Lee Harvey Oswald's name, but it
isn't good enough. There's a lot more than that.
In all honesty, the film is a '7', but Mel Gibson is so annoying that I can't stand him. Oh, come on...two
hours and fifteen minutes? Jerry should've been placed in the loony bin a long ago. The longer he
spews out bullshit, the easier it is for me to say that
The Manchurian Candidate and
The Pelican Brief are better given the subject matter.
As Alice Sutton, Julia Roberts has to use her eyes constantly to get through a lot of silly moments. Mel Gibson
is guilty of this, too. I wonder what goes through that batty brain of hers by sticking around Jerry. If you
have to know, his name was mentioned forty-nine times throughout the film. Since Alice is an attorney for the
Justice Department, how is that she has the time to deal with Jerry all day and night daily?
Forget Patrick Stewart as the archvillain; he's hopeless. So is everybody else who goes through the motions.
There are some unbelievable scenes, but one has to take the cake. It's when Jerry and Alice were on the bridge
and happened to spot a car that's lifted up by a jack. The car turns out to be driveable, so my question is: why
was it abandoned by the owner in the first place?
All in all, Mel Gibson gives the worst acting performance of his career hitherto in Conspiracy Theory.
