  1. The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

  2. If there's a Daniel Day-Lewis movie I'll watch over and over, it's The Last of the Mohicans. He's so good that I'm surprised he never received an Academy Award nomination for it. His chemisty with Madeleine Stowe is simply top-notch. They have some of the best romantic scenes in any film.

  3. My Left Foot (1989)

  4. Full of powerful scenes set in Ireland, My Left Foot proves why Daniel Day-Lewis is such a gifted actor. As a result, he won the first Oscar of his career. When I first saw the film at the theatre, I said that Daniel Day-Lewis was destined to be a great actor, and the rest was history. He took the art of the Method to extreme by staying in character the whole time to the frustration of everybody.

  5. The Boxer (1997)

  6. "I'm not a killer, Maggie, but this place makes me want to kill." The Boxer is terrific for its IRA backstory serving as the political force to keep two lovers apart yet they refuse to be. People have to dig Daniel Day-Lewis in a serious drama role. It's his quiet intensity that's effective. He trained like a boxer for three years, and it shows in the film.

  7. A Room with a View (1985)

  8. A Room with a View is a rare achievement in filmmaking which is transforming the screenplay into a motion picture with the feel of a 19th century novel with brilliant performances. The direction is adroitly done by James Ivory, and the cinematography is magnificent. Daniel Day-Lewis is perfect. This is the film that everybody missed because he wasn't yet well known, and watch his remarkable transformation from My Beautiful Laundrette given they were theatrically released on the same day.

  9. The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988)

  10. The Unbearable Lightness of Being is an erotic classic with three unforgettable players: Daniel Day-Lewis as the serial womanizer; Lena Olin who's hot, hot, hot; and Juliette Binoche. Who can mess up with these thespians giving sexual best of their careers? If there's anything I love, it's the unique shots, hence the sexy foreign look.

  11. Phantom Thread (2017)

  12. Daniel Day-Lewis announced his retirement from acting by making Phantom Thread the final film of his career. True to his craft, he spent one year delving into haute couture dressmaking. As a result, he generates outstanding performances out of Vicky Krieps and Lesley Manville.

  13. The Crucible (1996)

  14. It's hard to find any fault in The Crucible which is as good as the play per se. Getting Daniel Day-Lewis for the role of John Proctor is the chief reason why the film works, causing Winona Ryder to be hot and heavy over his character. Also, it's refreshing not to get bogged down by the language as the story moves briskly well from start to finish.

  15. In the Name of the Father (1993)

  16. Daniel Day-Lewis is excellent as Gerry Conlon, and his acting skills are never questioned. He puts most of the wannabe actors to shame except for Pete Postlethwaite who held his own opposite him. The two offer contrasting characters, and it makes the father-son relationship interesting in this UK prison picture.

  17. My Beautiful Laundrette (1985)

  18. In many ways, My Beautiful Laundrette is more of Gordon Warnecke's film because he plays the protagonist. Also, the title isn't an indication of a girl's name but a laundromat that's run by Omar who's helped by his homosexual friend Johnny. What makes Daniel Day-Lewis a great actor is his willingness to go far to take risks as he has full-on french kissing scenes with Gordon Warnecke.
