Harold and Maude is a nice romantic picture with some drawbacks.
It starts off poorly, but the pace is picked up later in the first half. From thereon, things are progressively better
until the end which isn't too shabby.
Admittedly, I find Bud Cort's Harold to be a detestable, irritating character. Along comes Maude who's played by Ruth Gordon,
having single-handedly stolen the film by turning the tables in terms of direction. Hence, where's the Oscar for her?
However, I sense a restraint throughout. Say if Harold and Maude are in love with each other, I should be seeing extremes of
their relationship, but it's been a peck here and there. So, points are taken off from my rating for being politically correct.
All in all, Harold and Maude is Ruth Gordon's show all the way through.
