Les amants du Pont-Neuf (1991)

3/16: Les amants du Pont-Neuf, which is otherwise known as The Lovers on the Bridge to us American pigs, is one of the strangest romantic pictures to emerge from cinema during the 90's.

However, I'll give credit where credit is due: Juliette Binoche and Denis Lavant give very, very good performances. They do everything possible in a spontaneous way and never fake it for a minute.

Where I'm put off the most is the insane amount of energy expended by the characters given the fact that neither has eaten much of food for proper nourishment (it's been alcohol and drugs with some firebreathing for the most part). I just find it all hard to believe. The other side of the coin is I didn't care for the characters, making it hard for me to get into the whole thing that's over the top all the time.

All in all, Les amants du Pont-Neuf is worth watching solely for Juliette Binoche and Denis Lavant.
