7 Best Performances

  1. Point Break (1991)

  2. It's one of the most adrenaline-rush pictures with some of the best editing ever. It's like being there. There are cool people, and there are super cool people. Point Break is full of the latter. The central focus is Patrick Swayze, having done all of his stunts in skydiving. It's obvious his character has so much charisma that Johnny Utah can't resist. He just wants to be that guy.

  3. North and South Duology (1985)

  4. Through the love stories and differences of philosophies, there's so much drama that it's hard not to be absorbed by the subplots while there's a display of many different, attractive-looking costumes. It's a reflection of the show's quality and high production values, a bona fide masterpiece of Civil War drama. In total, 8,700 pieces of wardrobe were presented, and the lead actresses each wore between 28 and 35 different costumes. As Orry Main, Patrick Swayze's performance is among the highlights.

  5. Dirty Dancing (1987)

  6. A huge favorite among females, Dirty Dancing is the last great dance picture. The editing is interesting because it's all about the dancing but is not high on character development. Rather, it's Patrick Swayze showing Jennifer Grey the ropes, and they're excellent together. Hence, Dirty Dancing is a timeless movie with memorable moments, fantastic music, and a killer intro, notwithstanding the strange mix of 50's/60's and 80's looks.

  7. Ghost (1990)

  8. A veteran producer-director of screwball comedies such as Airplane!, Jerry Zucker never saw Patrick Swayze as Sam Wheat, but Patrick, despite his already massive fame, wanted the role so much that he had to audition for it. Today, it's hard to believe given Patrick Swayze had made Dirty Dancing possible which won the hearts of many women all over the world. After he was cast, he refused to do the film until Whoopi Goldberg was given the role of Oda Mae Brown, leading to an Oscar win for herself.

  9. Road House (1989)

  10. Road House is a fun "don't think too much about it" flick starring Patrick Swayze as the cooler-manager of bouncers at a rowdy bar in the middle of nowhere. Fights happen on a nightly basis, and bouncers get beaten up while escorting instigators out of the bar. Interestingly, because of his knee injury during filming, Patrick Swayze had to turn down Tango & Cash and Predator 2, opting for easier work which turned out to be Ghost that obviously made his career again post-Dirty Dancing.

  11. Father Hood (1993)

  12. Father Hood is a lighthearted film about a bad dad who changes his mind about the responsibilities and decides to become a good father. There's plenty of action and comedy. More importantly, it has a lot of Patrick Swayze who shines and is fun to watch as usual. I like the word play on the title which shows a common hood who's supposed to act like a father to his two kids by setting a good example.

  13. Next of Kin (1989)

  14. You got to love the hillbillies-vs-the-Mafia angle in Next of Kin. It's one of those movies that the main star got all of the attention at the time yet the supporting cast became famous in the long run. Patrick Swayze may look believable for a hillbilly, but Liam Neeson has him beat despite being born in Northern Ireland. I like the story, and Adam Baldwin as Joey Rosselini makes for a formidable villain.
