David Duchovny is back for more, eh?
The territory is very familiar for him as it started in
Red Shoe Diaries that became a full-blown TV
sitcom on Showtime. In Return to Me, a letter will be involved, but
there's no display of sex.
David Duchovny and Minnie Driver make for a fine pair yet are rarely challenged by each other or the
script. The story is straightforward. I don't see what the issue is when the revelation will be made in
regard to the scar on Grace's chest or her heart coming from Bob's dead wife. Why is that her fault anyway?
To make things harder, how about Minnie Driver is a '10' from the facial standpoint yet her body is
completely ruined because of some fire incident? Now, that's what I call compelling. All we have to find
out is whether or not Bob is a shallow guy.
Unfortunately, there's too much schmaltz that's mostly supplied by the four old men and Jim Belushi. As a
result, the movie is hard to tolerate and keeps going in circles. Another issue is
Minnie Driver whose specialness had run out after Good Will Hunting.
She'll have to change it up by seeking different genres.
All in all, Return to Me is guilty of being too formulaic.
