Satan Never Sleeps?
Ha! But you will...like ten minutes into it. What a supremely boring movie to watch. This one took me some
days to be able to finish it. Nothing happens during the first hour, and absolutely nothing happens in the
next hour, too. Then, to add insult to injury, there's twenty-five minutes to go! It's just a lot of talk
and blah, blah, blah. Who cares about China, religion, or communism?!? I just wanna go home.
The most annoying aspect is France Nuyen who plays a stupid, pathetic girl. If William Holden was fed up with
her on-screen, imagine how more I had been. How about his listless performance or
most-out-of-place bomber jacket from Stalag 17? On the other hand, I have
to give credit to Clifton Webb, in the final performance of his career, for saving the film from being a
total turkey.
Funnily enough, Satan Never Sleeps was never shot anywhere in China but England and Wales. In case if
you didn't know, France Nuyen was actually cast in
The World of Suzie Wong and did some filming but had to drop out
halfway (thank goodness because Nancy Kwan was so much better) due to personal problems with Marlon Brando.
Therefore, this one can be seen as a makeup given that it stars William Holden.
All in all, Hollywood is sure weird when Satan Never Sleeps says it's okay to marry your rapist because
a child was conceived.
