Stick (1985)

Stick
7/26: If forced to choose, I'll go with Stick over Malone.

However, it's not hard to understand why Burt Reynolds started to nosedive in the mid 80's. He seems to be all there, but the material is weak. Editing-wise, Stick is sometimes disjointed with several absurd moments.

The first is when a bad guy was in the restroom, looking for Stick, and was about to exit but failed to see him hanging on the ceiling. The second is Stick had Nestor's hands up at the end and looked the other way for a while, yet the latter didn't try to escape in the meantime. The third is the Albino was gone for the longest time when it's clear he's supposed to be chasing Stick to death. He could've captured the daughter instead and used her for leverage.

Nonetheless, it's not a boring movie. Just everybody in the cast is right, providing well-developed characters. Only Candice Bergen, who's flat as always, is out of place. Primarily known for doing world-class stunts, Dar Robinson is the most distinctive actor, but in reality, he isn't Albino. The cinematography of Miami occasionally scores points, reminding me of Tony Rome.

All in all, it's wise that Stick ended Burt Reynolds' directorial career because he's simply not good at it.
