Thanks to Ken Russell's goofy approach to filmmaking, The Lair of the White Worm makes for a tough sitting.
Although there are certain aspects that work, the film is too talky. Seeing Harry Potter
doesn't help matters any, either. Honestly, things start to get boring after a while, and then it's a matter of
endurance to finish the movie. I barely survived the whole mess. It isn't what I call a true cult, horror, or comedy
film but a wannabe.
It's obvious that star potential is written all over Hugh Grant's face. Watching him act and keep a straight face during this
godforsaken crapfest has to be remarkable. Of the cast, Sammi Davis, who plays Mary, is the worst
and the most annoying. She looks like a female version of Dennis Christopher. One reviewer said, "Amanda Donohoe looks pretty
hot, but the armpit hair could go." Yeah, it's true. By the way, that's her on the movie poster.
All in all, Ken Russell was really cuckoo back then.
