Originally written by John Carpenter, The Philadelphia Experiment used to run a lot on TV during
the 80's.
Unfortunately, I never saw it in full. Trying again today, I realize that the first ten minutes is very boring,
making it hard to be interested in the rest of the film. The show does get better but not
much. What sticks out like a sore thumb is Michael Paré's haircut which isn't befitting of 1943 or the military.
The special effects are unbelievably cheap. Sure, it's cool that the two principal leads are shocked by the
changes after forty years, but that's all The Philadelphia Experiment has going for itself. The rest
of the way is bad acting, most especially from Michael Paré, Bobby Di Cicco, and Nancy Allen. I'm sure there
are specific scenes that Michael Paré wished he could take back.
I don't like how Nancy Allen's character keeps forcing romance to happen with David Herdeg. He's always
attracting electricity which should be a big concern to her. On the other hand, the whole vortex thing is
stupid. A team of scientists is able to capture that on computer and fix the fiasco? Yeah, right.
All in all, there's a better film than The Philadelphia Experiment, and it's called
Forever Young.
