I've said it before and will say it again: Fritz Lang is the hokiest director ever.
By the time the professor woke up from his dream, there went The Woman in the Window as a
film noir. In other words, it's a dream movie, and my time was completely wasted. If the incident did
happen for real, there's absolutely no reason to cover it up by claiming self-defense.
How about these stupid moments the professor had to give himself away seemingly on purpose? Only in Fritz
Lang's world. Even more unbelievable is the blackmailer, played by Dan Duryea, knowing exactly what to look
for that's connected with the "murder" case. Ditto for Raymond Massey as District Attorney Frank
Lalor who has an airtight explanation of how the whole thing went down. Yeah, sure...
Anyway, the acting is fine. Edward G. Robinson is great as always and gets to show off his hobby in real life:
art connoisseur. The rest of the cast keeps up with him. Nunnally Johnson's writing isn't irritating this time,
but a lot of aspects are still ridiculous. No matter what, it's a well-shot film.
All in all, I wish The Woman in the Window wasn't a dream movie.
