Trainspotting is for losers who can't get enough of Pulp Fiction.
Those who rate it higher are obviously teenagers, from the UK, or heroin addicts. Of the latter group, I
wonder how many saw it back then and had since passed away. Ditto for those who were influenced to try heroin for
the first time afterwards. The film fails to send an anti-drug message; instead, it glamorizes the lifestyle
which is an easy thing to do because everybody looks good and isn't missing teeth.
The script is utterly rubbish with too much poop all over. I dislike all of the characters, but one stands out
the most and I wanted him to die within fifteen minutes after his first appearance: Begbie played by Robert
Carlyle. Jonny Lee Miller would know the subject intimately by being married to a heroin addict: Angelina Jolie.
The best part is Ewan McGregor climbing into the toilet. Since 1996, it's exactly how I think of him. He screaming
at the baby crawling on the ceiling is pointless. I know his character is trying to wean himself off the heroin,
but can it already. It's been done in so many movies. According to Wikipedia, "McGregor considered injecting
heroin to better understand the character but eventually decided against it." That's how John Belushi died.
All in all, instead of Trainspotting, I recommend
Requiem for a Dream.
