I know many people make fun of Hercules in New York, but it has promise that's not adequately
fulfilled at times.
The film makes for a good viewing for students taking either Latin or a mythology course. The dialogue concerning
the Greek gods and goddesses is accurate. However, the show falls short in the second half by getting away
from it while engaging the characters in stupid chase stuff. There's also a lot of bad acting, especially
from Deborah Loomis who's so inept that she barely worked again.
Another plus is it's Arnold Schwarzenegger's first film. You should be mindful that he was 22 years old at
the time. He looks massive and very physically strong. If that's the only reason to see
Hercules in New York, then so be it. Of course, he would go on to sculpt his body more and win seven
Mr. Olympia titles, starring in 1970. One of the most memorable scenes of Arnold Schwarzenegger's career is
when he did the bouncy thing on his chest prior to throwing the javelin.
All in all, I would rather watch Hercules in New York over Arnold Schwarzenegger's modern disasters
such as End of Days, The 6th Day,
Collateral Damage, and
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
