Soldier98
5/25: Is Kurt Russell's character supposed to be a robot or an unfeeling badass?

A lot of people tend to connect Soldier with Blade Runner. Nope, wrong...it's simply a retake of Westworld which was followed through in The Terminator and Solo. Here's the problem: the first three featured robots, but Todd isn't a one. Regardless, that's not the reason why Soldier fell apart.

It's rather directorial ineptitude. Then again, Paul Anderson was responsible for Event Horizon. Both films were massive box-office bombs. There's barely any story, and it's hard to see what's going on during the battle due to the onslaught of made-for-TV CGI. Sometimes, the editing is off. I hate the theme of "we have to be in contact with our feelings" that's espoused by the people on the garbage planet

At the beginning, Caine fought three battle-tested soldiers including Todd and dispatched them quite easily. Yet at least twenty of his kind are sent to the garbage planet and Todd manages to kill them all by himself? Talk about a 5,000-meter-leap in believability. Anyway, I was impressed when they found a kid who looked like Kurt Russell, but I didn't know it was his son Wyatt. Having pumped weights for a year and half to prepare for the role, the headliner spoke 104 words in total with many "sir"s directed to either gender.

All in all, if not for Kurt Russell who did it merely for the paycheck, Soldier is an easy '1'.
